Liefmans Kriek pours orange/red, like an autumn maple leaf. The head is pinkish-white, and the nose is cherry with a cellar astringency. An approachable beer, with the cherries out front. Liefmans, the iconic Belgian brewer of "Oud Bruin" or Old Brown beer, has been saved from closure. The company based in Oudenaarde was declared bankrupt in December but has been rescued by the Moortgat brewery, which produces the world-famous strong golden ale Duvel. Liefmans Fruitesse is a unique, refreshing blend of beers, ripened on real cherries which sit in the cellars.
